National Pain Week 2026

Chronic pain affects more than the body. For many men, it can also affect work, income, independence and identity.

Around 1 in 5 Australians live with chronic pain, and low back pain is the most common chronic pain condition affecting men.

Back pain is also the second-leading individual cause of disease burden among Australian men, who are also disproportionately affected by the wider consequences of chronic pain, including work-related disability, workforce exit, drug-related harm and the compounding effects of pain, lost function and suicide risk.

Lower back pain is not always confined to the spine. The pelvic girdle, including the sacroiliac joint complex, may also contribute to persistent low back pain.

For some men, the wider picture may also include pelvic floor tension, pelvic pain, urinary symptoms, changes in sexual function or prolonged pain following surgery for an enlarged prostate or treatment for prostate cancer.

Remedial massage is not a cure for chronic pain, but it can form part of a broader management plan by addressing protective muscle guarding, tender or sensitive soft tissue areas, stiffness, restricted movement and pain-related tension.

Male pelvic health therapy can extend that support to the pelvic girdle and surrounding tissues when symptoms involve the pelvis, perineum or recovery after prostate treatment.

Do not wait until pain costs you function, work or quality of life. Book with Trent Renshaw for care that considers the whole picture. Call Hoys Allied Health & Wellness on 02 6652 7355 or book online today.
