🎗️ This World Cancer Day, we’re reflecting on what happens after treatment ends.
For many men, the conclusion of surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation is described as “the finish line.”
But for those living with the after-effects of cancer treatment, it’s often the beginning of a different phase — one marked by ongoing pain, fatigue, swelling, changes in function, and challenges that are less visible to others.
Recovery is rarely linear, and remission does not always mean resolution.
People-centred cancer care recognises that support should extend beyond active treatment. It acknowledges the physical, emotional, and functional impacts that can persist long after discharge, and the importance of care that adapts to the individual — not just the diagnosis.
Supportive therapies, including oncology massage, lymphatic drainage and scar therapy, can play a role in this phase by helping to reduce discomfort, ease fatigue, support function, and improve quality of life in a safe, considered way.
When care continues after treatment ends, men are better supported not just to survive cancer — but to live well beyond it.
